Monday’s windy weather did not improve; in fact it got worse. Right on midday, a hail storm arrived which had scared the b’jeesus out of us in the van. Fortunately no damage but the Campground at Eumungerie was awash and temporarily closed to incoming campers.

Fortunately it was all over in 30 minutes but then the strong winds started again so we were happy we decided to stay put for another night.

Having lost a travelling day, we put in a few extra kms yesterday and decided to check out the camp behind the Royal Hotel in Grong Grong. What a great spot. Free to camp if you have a drink at the pub or donation requested. $5 for a shower.

We arrived in time to watch the Cup in the bar with the Publicans, Ted and Kay, and a few of the friendly locals. Had a flutter on the runner up so I was a happy girl. Returned later for rissoles and veggies. All up, a good day. Heading further south today. Perhaps to Ayson’s Reserve.Image

Great Little pub. Did you score a stubby holder ???.
Get some strange people in there sometimes.
Nice spot on the other side of the railway lines near the shops but the pub is the best.
Seen People stay there and sit outside drinking their own wine the cheap snobs. Did not come in for one drink, me I got sloshed and helped clean up and shut down. There was no meals on one day I rolled up but they still cooked one for me so great service once you break the ice LOL.

No didn’t get the stubby holder Brian - got to watch the weight in the van you know! [emoji6]We checked out the free camp but wanted to watch the race and have a bit of company. Certainly contributed to their coffers I can tell you! [emoji481][emoji481][emoji481][emoji485][emoji485][emoji485]

Following our night at Grong Grong, we headed to Aysons Reserve on the Campaspe River, arriving the day after Melbourne Cup. Apparently there had been around 80 rigs there for the Cup weekend but thankfully many had left by the time we arrived.

We spent 3 relaxing nights there, got a load of washing done and changed the anode which we hadn’t had time for before we left home.

Our plan was to spend Saturday night at a free camp at Kyneton, leaving us an easy run into Melbourne for our evening sail on Sunday. However, the best spot at Kyneton was already taken when we arrived and the remainder was exposed and not really appealing. A quick call to the recommended CP closest to the SOT revealed they were fully booked but we found a spot at Crystal Brook CP in Doncaster East for the night.

Thanks to Chris61 and others, I was well prepared for the drive to the ferry. Unfortunately, I hadn’t factored in the City2Sea race which would close part of our intended route. In the end we opted for the Google Maps which did include tolls. As we have a Qld GoVia account with credit we rarely use, it made sense to us to take the easy option.
So we scoped out Station Pier and then found a convenient spot behind Bunnings in Port Melbourne to while away a few hours till it was time to join the boarding queue. All went to plan and we were underway a full half hour earlier than our scheduled 7.30 pm departure time.ImageImage
