4 Months in Tassie

Post by Swisslulu »

Spent our first couple of days at the donation Campground in Forth. A nice spot but we parked a bit too close to a tree that was shedding some sticky seed covers.

Moved on for a night catching up with friends who were property sitting at Glengarry and have been at this lovely campsite in York Town for a few days. $10 per night. Will get the washing done today and move on in the morning.Image

Forth is a nice campground, free but not much within walking distance, Yorktown however is a fantasic spot, not much wihin walking distance either but lots close by. We spent the weekend at Westbury for 2 nights, free and Latrobe for one night, $10, both great sites with lots within walking disance . Rumour has it that Westbury and all Meander Valley Council sites are going to be closed down, we will have to see what happens.

Glad to see you are enjoying yourselves, hopefully we can catch up before you head home.

After crossing the Batman Bridge, we stocked up with groceries in Georgetown and then drove out to Low Head to have a look at the light house. Beautiful views. Now camped at Scottsdale for a few nights to explore the area.

Chris, we will be at Ulverstone Big 4 the weekend of Dec 8 for the Best of Caravan and Camping in Tassie Fb group gathering and then explore the north west from there.
Cheers

How noisy are the log trucks and milk tankers coming down the hill past the free camp. I have often thought that their would be plenty of engine brake noise, Derby free camps is a good place if the noise gets too much.

The weekend of the 8th December we will be in Devonport with a Devil Wheelers get together, but you will be not far from home

Chris, the noise hasn’t bothered us through the night and we are early risers so all good. We did a round trip in the car yesterday through Bridport, Tomahawk, Gladstone, down to Pyangana to check out the camp there and back through Derby. What a quirky little town it is but the camps were packed by that time of day. Going out to the Ledgerwood Memorial trees today for a look then a stroll around Scottsdale. Later in the week, heading back to the Launceston PO to collect our postal votes for Saturday’s election.
Cheers

Myrtle Park on the way to Launceston through the Sidling (about the same sort of road as the Weldborough Pass) is a good campground, not much around it, but Old Macs Farm is a fabulous place to stay, only 7km from CBD and about 10km from Cataract Gorge. The drive up Ben Lomond via Jacobs Ladder is an experience in itself, not much up there but the views are great. Don't take the caravan up there at all or even the car if you are a little unnerved by steep gravel roads. It can be done in 2wd in good weather.

We stayed two nights at Myrtle Park. Very peaceful and relaxing but as Chris says, not much else to see or do there. We had a nice spot by the river but all the riverside spots were booked for the weekend.ImageImage

So we moved on to Old Macs Farm this morning. A beautiful spot too, backing onto the lake.ImageImage

Both campsites unpowered and $10 per night. We plan to stay here until Monday.
Cheers
