Recently pulled off the power steering pump as it was leaking like a sieve, turns out it's stuffed and at 40 years old no parts available.
The steering box has also developed a slight leak which is now understandable as quite a bit of metal has gone through the lines, so it has to come out as well.
What a job, the steering knuckles (like tie rod ends) just didn't want to come off, ended up damaging them getting them off as well, the cost is starting to mount up now...
OK, now undo the bolts holding the steering box onto the chassis, well the bottom 2 were OK to loosen, but it's just not possible to get to the 2 top ones.
So, lets see if the floor around the pedals can be removed - start taking off all the original vinyl flooring and found rust (of course) and bolts that can be removed to take out the floor.
OK, so now i have to take out the clutch pedal, Master cylinder may as well have a kit through it now i guess as well, the brake pedal, air brakes could do with checking anyway, and the accelerator pedal, which it turns out has been relocated further forward at some time leaving a hole in the floor and a bit of metal siliconed on over the top... They also managed to wreck the pedal movement which i was aware of but now know the reason why.
Of course the steering column has to come out, and lastly the headlight dimmer switch has to be removed as well, and of course the screws are rusted solid.
Now while I'm doing all this i am going to have to tackle this mess.
Think i might have to set up a bit of a competition to see who can guess the closest as to how many wires are in there?
It will stay like that for a while though, will do all the mechanical stuff i'm pulling off first.
Reckon I might wait for Wayne to come and help???
Cheers,
